An alpine holiday in spring or summer can be enjoyed by all adults and children, with many acitivities to fill the day or for those who just love being in the mountains,  relaxing taking in the spectacular views. 
 
Put on your walking boots and enjoy the fabulous Salzburger Sportwelt countryside around Flachau with over 150 km of marked footpaths for all level of walkers and hikers.

Are you a fan of mountain biking? Get to know the mountains around Flachau from the saddle of your bike. There are approx. 100 km of mountain bike routes in and around Flachau for you to choose from. There are many active and non active facilities available for the whole family - Golf, paragliding, swimming, horseriding, minature golf, mountain climbing, mountain treking to name but a few.
 
 

 

 

Summer Activities

 

Walking & Hiking  There are many walks & hikes in and around Flachau from gentle walks to strenous mountain hikes.  Uphill transport is served by the Star Jet I & II chairlifts.  For information on routes and guided walks click here

 

Golf  There is a minature golf course in Flachau opening times & prices can be obtained from the website.  The nearest 18 hole golf course is at Radstadt around 12 kms from Flachau.  The course is 18 holes Par 71 length being 5,962m off the men's tee.  The course will give golfers of all levels a good test  in spectacular surroundings.  There is also a 9 hole Par 3 course ideal for novice golfers.  For information on prices, club hire, etc see the website (German site only) To see a plan of the course click here

 

Horse Riding  Horse and pony riding is available in Flachau and surrounding villages.  Details from the Tourist office.

 

Swimming  Wasserwelt Amadé in Wagrain is a great water park giving lovers of water plenty of activity in pools,  great water slides,  a 'sauna world' and fanatastic areas for relaxation.  Spend a day here you will not be disappointed, click here for information on opening times & prices.

 

Flachau has two swimming lakes -  Zauchensee is a loverly clear mountain lake at an elevation of 1350 meters ideal to cool down after a long hike or a round of golf.  And the Flachauwinkel lake is set on the cycle trail to Flachauwinkel facilities  available here are a playground, a restaurant and a high rope course.  Entry is Free.

Other Activities  The Alpincentre has many activities to try such as white water rafting, canyoning, climbing, etc.  For more information see the website.   The centre also has a winter programme of activities.

 

Sightseeing  There are many sights to see in Salzburgland.  You really can not miss a day in the beautful city of Slazburg with its Hohensalzburg Fortress, the picturesque Old City and who could forget -  Mozart and The Sound of Music.  For more information visit Salzburg's website   If you plan to spend more time in Salzburg the Salzburg Card would be a good purchase giving discounts for free single admission to all the city's attractions, free use of public transport throughout the city, ( incl. fortress funicular) panorama boat & cable car Untersberg, attractive discounts for cultural events and discounts for various tours and excursions.  Prices and further information can be found here

 

Krimml Falls  The Krimml waterfalls are the only natural monument in Austria, distinguished by the European Conservation Diploma, and globally one of the most attractive sights.  Spectacular views of the muntains as you walk the falls. Open from mid-April to the end of October.  Further information view the website

 

Großglockner Glacier At 3,798m the Großglockner is not only the highest mountain in Austria, it also counts among the highest peaks in the Alps. The Großglockner High Alpine Road has been an experience for for many tourist and visitors since 1935. This most famous of alpine roads ends before the highlight of the Hohe Tauern National Park -  the highest mountain the Großglockner at 3,798m and the Pasterze the largest glacier in Austria at 7km.  For more information see the website

 

Hohwerfen Castle 

A fairytale castle, high up in the mountains in Austria very near to Salzburg. It is said that parts of The Sound of Music were filmed here, with the castle as a backdrop. In the mountains above the castle are indoor ice caves which are very impressive.  You will find the castle around an hour out of Salzburg.
